Air & turbo

Charge pipe

Carries pressurized air from the turbo toward the engine.

Where it sits

Between turbocharger, cooler and intake assembly.

How it works

The pipe, joints and seals must contain boost while accommodating heat and movement.

Think of it as

A pressure hose between an air pump and its destination.

Symptoms when it fails

A split pipe or failed seal may cause hissing, reduced boost or mixture faults.

Lifespan

Filters follow the vehicle service schedule; ducts and boost hardware are inspected for condition, sealing and operation.

Repair cost

A hose or filter is generally simpler to service than a turbo assembly. Access and diagnosis can dominate cost.

The BMW angle

A charge pipe carries boosted intake air; a downpipe carries hot exhaust.

Used in

BMW combustion models; boost hardware applies to turbocharged engines only.
