Engine air filter
Removes dust from air before it enters the engine.
Look for: The pleated panel inside the orange perimeter seal.
Inside the airbox upstream of the engine intake.
Pleated media provides a large filtering area; a sealed housing prevents dirty air bypassing the element.
A dust mask for the intake.
Restriction, damaged media or an incorrectly seated seal can affect intake operation.
Filters follow the vehicle service schedule; ducts and boost hardware are inspected for condition, sealing and operation.
A hose or filter is generally simpler to service than a turbo assembly. Access and diagnosis can dominate cost.
BMW engine air filters are separate from the cabin pollen filter.
BMW combustion models; boost hardware applies to turbocharged engines only.
