Engine internals

ძრავის ბლოკი Holds the cylinders and supports the engine’s rotating parts. ცილინდრის თავი Closes the cylinders and carries the valves that control breathing. Cylinder-head gasket Seals combustion pressure, oil and coolant between the block and head. დგუში Receives combustion force and moves up and down inside a cylinder. Piston rings Seal combustion gas and control the oil film on cylinder walls. ბარბაცა Transfers piston force to the crankshaft. მუხლა ლილვი Turns the pistons’ back-and-forth motion into rotation. Crankshaft main bearing Supports the crankshaft on a controlled film of oil. Connecting-rod bearing Lets a connecting rod rotate around its crankshaft journal. განაწილების ლილვი Times the opening and closing of engine valves. შემშვები სარქველი Opens a passage for fresh air into a cylinder. Exhaust valve Lets burned gas leave the cylinder. Valve spring Returns a valve toward its closed position. გაზგამანაწილებელი ჯაჭვი Keeps crankshaft and camshaft movement synchronized. Timing-chain tensioner Maintains suitable tension in the timing-chain path. Cylinder-head cover Seals the top of the engine around the valve gear. Crankcase ventilation valve Controls how crankcase gas returns to the intake. VANOS cam-timing system Changes when the engine valves open and close. Valvetronic valve-lift system Varies how far the intake valves open to control airflow. Engine mount Holds the engine while isolating vibration from the body. Crankshaft vibration damper Absorbs twisting vibration at the front of the crankshaft. Piston pin Joins the piston to the small end of the connecting rod. Piston cooling jet Sprays oil under the piston crown to carry heat away. Cylinder bore surface Forms the wall the piston and rings slide against. როლიკებიანი კოჭა Transfers cam-lobe motion to the valve. Hydraulic lash adjuster Keeps valve clearance at zero automatically. Crankshaft position sensor Tells the engine computer the exact crank angle and speed. Camshaft position sensor Reports camshaft position so timing can be checked and adjusted. Knock sensor Listens for uncontrolled combustion so timing can back off.

High-voltage traction battery Stores the energy used to propel an electric or plug-in-hybrid BMW. Traction-battery cell Stores electrical energy through reversible chemical reactions. Battery module / cell assembly Organizes cells into a defined battery assembly where the architecture uses modules. Battery-management system Monitors battery conditions and sets permitted operating limits. Traction inverter Controls electrical power exchanged with the drive motor. Electric traction motor Turns electrical energy into driving rotation. Electric-motor stator Creates the controlled magnetic field in the fixed part of a motor. Electric-motor rotor Provides the rotating magnetic assembly that delivers motor torque. Onboard AC charger Converts incoming AC power into charging power for the battery. High-to-low-voltage converter Supplies the low-voltage network from the traction battery. Charging inlet / charge port Connects the car to compatible charging equipment. Charging-connector lock Holds a compatible charging connector in its intended position. High-voltage contactor Connects or separates sections of the traction-battery power circuit. Electric-drive reduction gear Matches motor rotation to useful wheel torque and speed. Electric-drive thermal system Manages temperatures in the battery, motor and electronics. Vehicle heat-pump system Moves heat to support efficient cabin or thermal conditioning when fitted. Regenerative braking Recovers some motion energy as electricity while slowing the car.
