Wheel-speed sensor
Reports each monitored wheel’s rotation to control systems.
At the hub or wheel carrier near its encoder.
A sensor reads a rotating target to supply speed and direction information according to system design.
A wheel-by-wheel motion counter.
ABS or DSC warnings can involve the sensor, wiring, encoder or bearing.
Inspect tread, age, pressure and damage rather than using appearance alone. Wheels and bearings are assessed for condition.
Inflation correction is small work; tire sets, forged wheels and damaged hubs can be much larger expenses.
A BMW wheel-speed fault is not proof that the hydraulic DSC unit has failed.
BMW models using the specified wheel and tire combination; approved sizes vary by vehicle.
