Flagship comfort meets electric drive.
The i7 xDrive60 coordinates front and rear electric motors in the 7 Series body. Compare it with the 740i and older 750iL to follow how BMW’s flagship powertrains change.
An electric luxury saloon.
Its size and comfort equipment deserve as much attention as range.
The xDrive60 rating describes the coordinated electric system.
eDrive · Dual-motor all-wheel drive
BMW i3 electric drive unit shown in 2013. System reference: later i4, i5, i7 and iX drive units have different generations, motors and installation.
Coordinated front and rear electric motors
The i7 xDrive60 pairs electrically excited synchronous motors at the front and rear. BMW’s launch data gives a combined 400 kW and 745 Nm from its electric all-wheel-drive system.
101.7 kWh usable energy
The underfloor lithium-ion battery has 101.7 kWh of usable energy in this specification. Usable capacity is the energy available within the operating window, distinct from gross capacity.
Recover energy during deceleration
The electric drive can operate as a generator when slowing down. Power electronics manage the flow of recovered energy into the battery; physical brakes provide additional stopping force when needed.
