One twin-scroll turbo
Exhaust energy spins the turbine, which drives the intake compressor. Twin-scroll refers to two exhaust passages in one turbine housing, not two turbochargers.
Manage combustion and intake heat
Coolant carries heat away from the engine. Charge-air cooling reduces the temperature of compressed intake air before it enters the cylinders.
Mild hybrid assistance
The 2022 US M40i includes a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This is distinct from a plug-in hybrid or a fully electric BMW.
