The 330i in the turbo-four era.
The G20 330i shows how the 3 Series changed: this record uses a turbocharged B48 four-cylinder rather than the straight-six found in the earlier E46 330i. The familiar badge tells only part of the story.
A modern, manageable sports saloon.
Check equipment and market specification rather than assuming from the badge.
A modern 330i badge does not mean a 3.0-litre engine.
B48 · Inline-four
A 1,998 cm³ turbocharged inline-four with direct injection, Valvetronic and Double VANOS. This selection uses the European B48 specification; US emissions variants can use B46.
B48 four-cylinder engine-family reference. Longitudinal and transverse installations differ.
Four cylinders in line.
The B48 family uses four cylinders and one twin-scroll turbocharger. The museum cutaway exposes internal components, but is not the exact G20 revision.
One turbo, two exhaust passages.
A twin-scroll turbine housing separates exhaust pulses before they reach the turbine. It does not contain two turbochargers.
